What we are "trained to do"

I wonder if George Zimmerman's trial will divide the country like O.J.'s  case did when I was a kid in the 90's. I'm lying forgive me. This is America. I already know that this country will be divided like football endzones. I find it ironic that so many Americans were MORE THAN outraged by Mike Vick and the dog killings, but that it took so long to get a small measure of that outcry for a human being. One person even said to me, "well the dogs were just doing what they were trained to do." I replied that a teen walking to the store on a cold night with a hoodie on, just to go get food, may have been also doing what he was "trained to do". The real question is, why did Zimmerman not have to do the same? Why didn't he have to do what he was "trained to do"? The Stand your Ground law didn't require any training. Let's take race out of the equation. What the law is saying is a man that has a history of violence can draw a gun on a person if he simply "feels" threatened A forward thinker wonders however, is it safe to give such power of finality without any training? The law is written to simply trust the judgement of a possible hot head, and believe the story of the last man standing? In my humble opinion, that's coloring outside the lines... A.K.A. sloppy work. To give someone the legal right to kill, without clarity of qualified scenarios is horrific. Surely though America, due to race as well as other factors, will divide its opinion on this matter for decades. It's sad a tragedy occurred b/c of either poor legislation or poor enforcement....or the poorest of voting practices. It Seems to me, we all might need new training.
